Steps and Pressure makes use of field recordings from very different origins, which nevertheless have astonishingly similar sound qualities. For example, ice bursting under pressure with trees rubbing against each other, steps on and in various materials and crackling charcoal are examined spectromorphologically and fused together. In doing so, Steps and Pressure does not pursue a narrative, although various themes—beyond pure listening—can open up. The starting point is a recording that I have never worked with before, but from whose sonic appearance alone I now wanted to be guided by and at the same time associatively deal with the other sounds – in their respective own time.
